From 2 zones to 3 zones in diagramming for the agile literature review approach

This note discuss the reasons adopting 3 zones, instead of 2 zones, in diagramming for the agile literature review approach (ALRA)

A 2-zones scheme would go something likes this:

For examining management issues and concerns as well as for developing a set of high-level research tasks, the two-zones scheme has the following limitations:

1. It does not clearly indicate which independent variables are controllable, and which not, from the managerial perspective.
2. It does not tell whether the the dependent variable is indeed a management issue or management concern as related to an organization's organizational capability, organization's performance or any implemented or proposed recommendation.
3. It may have indicated some actions (e.g., some independent variables may be related to some manipulable policy options), but it does not indicate what the organization "can do" (or need to build up the capability to do), but primarily suggests what the company can consider "to do".

For these reasons, the writer adopts the 3-zones scheme for the agile literature review approach.

The 3-zones scheme is much more useful for guiding an applied business research project because it addresses the 2-zones scheme limitations much better.

Multiple regression analysis - a typical concern from Independent Study students

Multiple regression analysis - a common concern from Independent Study (IS) students

Student A: I have generated my multiple regression report, but it shows that all the b-values (of the x variables) have almost zero values and that the p-values are so large that the null hypotheses of b values being zero cannot be rejected. Is it a big problem? What could I do now?

Professor B:  It needs not be a problem. There are three actions you could consider:
i. keep analyzing your existing data with your existing regression formula for your assignment work [remember: no major findings is still a finding];
ii. revise mildly your multiple regression formula with, e.g., different variables, in an exploratory mode to see if something more interesting can be discovered;
iii. conduct some complementary data analysis using scatter diagrams, bar charts, or pivot tables, etc., to enrich your data analysis.

All the three actions are OK.

Student A: I don't want to be OK; I need to achieve high score.

Professor B: ic; in this case, consider action (ii) or (iii); action (iii) tends to have a higher ROI on your effort made. You could also consider to adopt both (ii) and (iii), if you like and have time to do so. If you take action (ii), you need to update your literature review to support your revised multiple regression formula setting.

Chapter 7: Reflection on personal development
Current version: Chapter 7: Reflection on personal development (content same as portfolio report) [no separate mark for personal development]: the guideline is :
